Anxiety and fear – 2015.03.08

I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mortal men,
the sons of men, who are but grass,,
that you forget the Lord your Maker,
who stretched out for heavens
and laid the foundation of the earth,
that you live in constant terror every day
because of the wrath of the oppressor,
who is bent on destruction?
For where is the wrath of the oppressor?
Isaiah 51:12-13
We Christians are like all people: We have fear, existential fears, fear to be attacked by the aggression of other, by their defamation, persecutions, injuries. We are troubled by many big and small things, are anxious what the future will bring, for instance with regard to our children. Obviously the fear is ruling us.
But God does not want that! He considers our attitude of fear as a distrust towards Him. He is our Father, who created us and the whole earth in His almighty power. Should He not be able to provide His children with everything what they need? Should He be too weak to protect them?
The wrath of the oppressors does not last forever. Today they seemed to be heroes, tomorrow they pass away like grass that is mowed. God, however, is eternal; He never does change. He is always present and blesses us. He is love, He consoles, knows us, whispers words of encouragement in our ears, gives us power and hope. He is present; whom I shall fear!
He is the Lord who led His people through the sea with great power. They passed through the sea safely, the soldiers of Pharao however drowned all. Yes, the Lord always knows a way out if necessary through a sea. He always cares about His children. He never will leave nor forsake them. He is Lord – and our oppressors? They are only mortal men, a breath of wind.
Thank you, Jesus, You are the most Powerful! You are my Hiding Place, my Rock, my Protector. Please forgive me when I am afraid and looking more to my oppressors than to You. I will not forget You as You are always at my side; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. I fear no evil.
