Bitter Water – 2015.10.16

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.
Exodus 15:25

Three days the Israelites wandered through the desert without water. When they finally reached Marah they only found bitter water, which was impossible to drink. The people became upset and ask Moses what they where supposed to drink. Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. And when he threw this wood into the water, the water became drinkable. The well, the water was from, was called Marah – bitter. There the Lord put the Israelites to the test and gave them the Law. He said, "If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you."
We don’t just need food and drink to keep our body alive, our mind needs food as well. But often this food is bitter, unfit to eat. What sustenance do a most religions, philosophies, and political movements have? Can one feed ones mind with the television or computer? The only spring, which is fit to drink, is Jesus. The world with its opinions should not poison us; it’s just lies. We should go to Jesus directly and drink from Him. He has words of eternal life.
We take a lot of time to prepare our food and drink because we want it to be nutritious and taste good. We should do the same with the food of our mind. Three minutes daily fast food is not enough, our faith will starve.
Maybe our water is bitter because we don’t understand Gods word or because we are always distracted or because we can’t pray right. Jesus wants to give us a piece of wood. This wood is a piece of His cross. He himself will make the food for our mind sweet. We will drink fresh water, not old, murky, dead, and bitter water. We will encounter Him in silence and He will be our fresh water.
I look to the windowsill and notice my flowers that became weak from lack of water. I will go and get water for them, and they will flourish again! And when I add a little fertilizer they will grow and bloom like never before! Jesus, give us fertilizer so we can grow mentally! Be the water from which we draw!

Thank You Jesus, for You want to feed our soul! You don’t give our bitter water, but fresh water! In You I have found the spring of life and I can rest by your side. Truly, I have found a resting place near water, like it’s written in Psalm 23.
