By my Spirit – 2017.02.14

Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit! – says the Lord Almighty.
Zechariah 4,6
A different translation: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
That is how evangelisation took place in the Middle Ages:  by force and strength.  Anyone who was of a different opinion was either burnt at the stake or banned.  Many missionaries ended up there.  The Huguenots of France had the bloody Massacre of St Bartholomew, during which thousands were killed by the mob.  Neighbouring nations were evangelised according to the motto:  should you not wish to be my brother, I will break your skull.  But Christianity was merely forced onto the unbelievers, without growing any roots.  Force or strength is no way to convert people for Jesus.  Today still, evangelisation is not possible, even with the power of money, with influence and lobbies in parliament.  These only serve to strengthen the power of the Church, nothing more.
It is the Spirit that leads to Jesus.  The Spirit converts people from their sins.  The Spirit awakens a yearning for God and Jesus in peoples’ hearts.  The Spirit unlocks the Word, so that we can understand it.  Only through the Spirit will our nation seek and find God.  The Spirit makes use of ways and means that may be foreign to us.  These are the gifts of the Spirit, which will be released to aid evangelisation and build congregations.
Once, at a conference, we prayed for a man.  Nobody laid hands on him, yet after a few minutes he fell to the ground.  Afterward he told us that he was actually a very sceptical pastor who wanted to test God’s power.  Now I understood why no one laid hands on him, because that would have been misinterpreted as manipulation.  Now it was purely God’s Spirit who caused him to fall.  We will be seeing many, many more wondrous deeds by God, because the Spirit of God will be set free!
The key is prayer.  In Zechariah 12,10 we read:  I will pour out the spirit of grace and supplication.  Prerequisite for this is a very strong bond with Jesus.  Then we will experience true sympathy with those lost souls and perform deeds of mercy, and we will seek the company of Jesus in prayer.  Without Him we are powerless.  Then God will give His Spirit rest in the land of the north (Zechariah 6,8).  That is what we are waiting and praying for!
The awakening of the Spirit in the lands of the north is already visible.  Living congregations are arising, governed by the Spirit.  New life and hope are awakening.  Many are discovering Christ, even though they did not grow up with him.
Yes, I am yearning for this awakening, praying for it!  I want to serve this awakening with my life!
Thank You Jesus, You have not forgotten the nations of the north!  You have created our nation, you have a goal for our country!  Please, give us Your life giving Spirit!!
