God did NOT sent His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
John 3:17

Unfortunately, many people do not understand Jesus correctly or cannot believe Him: He is not there to judge. Not then and not now, because it is still the time of grace. Judgment is coming, but it is not yet a time of judgment and condemnation.
Many do not understand that Jesus is gracious to them because they sin the same sin every day. They misjudge His forebearance and patience. They think they have to be perfect, super holy or at least a little bit. But as soon as they have conquered one sin or habit, the next one disturbs them and they condemn themselves again. They are never holy enough, and they are right. Only Jesus can make them righteous because He came for sinners and not for the righteous. Be glad that you know you are a sinner! Then Jesus can acquit you; – and if it must be, He does it every morning or even every hour anew. So great is His grace; – and You do not believe Him. – Too bad. This is what makes Him so grief-stricken: Your unbelief in His infinite forgiveness. Your sin does not cause Him half as much grief. For He knows that we are sinners.
Jesus came for the sinners, not for the righteous. As long as you know that you are a sinner, you are right with Jesus. Once you are righteous yourself, better than most others, Jesus can do nothing for you anymore. Self-righteousness is the opposite of Jesus’ righteousness. The Pharisees were such self-righteous people.
Self damnation leads to chaotic mental states, depressions, thoughts of suicide and finally to resignation: God does not love me, He forgets me, He has left me. All the others are full of joy, only I have my sorrow ….. Self-pity rules. Often they cannot believe that Jesus even loves their condition, does not give up on them despite the odds, forgets or leaves them. Often they are physical illnesses, and man thinks it is a spiritual thing. You have to clear it up before you condemn yourself. That is what the trustworthy brothers and sisters and the doctor are for.

Jesus, You have saved us, You have paid all the debt of sin! Thank You! I want to hold on to this and give the accuser and liar no room in my mind! Help! – I cling to You!
