Fishermen of Men – 2019.06.24

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
Matthew 13, 47

”… When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore.  Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how It will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where they will weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Everything that Jesus says, He means very, very seriously. When He talks about the end of the world, it is for Him a bitter, serious reality and at the same time a great joy. He rejoices that the net is full and that many people are saved for Heaven. And He is sad about the many who have turned their backs on Him and now have to bear the consequences. These consequences are real, HE knows it and therefore tells us about it. We may keep it quiet or discuss it away; – but He has the better arguments, for He has been there before and knows.
It is like in the days of Noah. Everyone did what he liked. Robbing, murdering, lying, raping ….. horrible times! The people celebrated as much as they could. Let us enjoy life, for tomorrow we may already be dead! – There is no God, there is no judge; – whatever I like is good. – I want to be free, even at the expense of others! – Oh, it is hard to listen to all this nonsense. Back then with Noah it was exactly the same as today. And then the rain came ….. and the world ended.
Today we are heading into catastrophe with our eyes open. But hardly anyone steers against it. Even we as Christians are conspicuously quiet. Seldomn do we raise our voices. But we have to fish! Cast out the net and save what can be saved! Playing the moral advocate is not enough.
There are so many who are disappointed by the empty promises, by the temptations, by the sin and the bondage. They want peace, freedom, genuine joy, security and meaning in life. Let us seek them, throw out the nets and find them! We can argue about the correct theology later ….

Jesus, get us ready for You! Help our hearts come into harmony with Yours!  We want to do what is on Your heart. Thank You, You will help us. Amen!
