Friends of Jesus – 2014.11.04

As the Father loved me, I too have loved you. Remain in my love. … You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I don’t call you servants any longer, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because everything I heard from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:9,14f

That is what Jesus wants with us: Being friends! He doesn’t want servants who just work and work without understanding what they are actually doing. He wants friends with whom He can go ahead together. He wants friendship, community, storytelling, joy, sharing burdens and mutual love and respect. He does not want to be the aloof king, but go with us through the days hand in hand.
It is not enough to Him when we visit Him from time to time or transmit Him a short message a couple of times a day. He wants us to be constantly close to Him. Just as two friends who go fishing or play soccer and constantly have something to talk about, or like two girlfriends spending hours on talking to each other on the telephone. So Jesus will be in touch with us. How good, when we have such a friend! He opens many doors for us, constantly helps us in all small things, protects us from harm and danger, accompanies us through sickness and weakness, encourages and gives strength …. Yes, I can’t imagine a better friend!
To my friend it does not matter how dirty, smutted, sinful and imperfect a human is. For He can clean it. Jesus is pure and holy and He wants to make us like that. When we do not want to let go of our dirt, how can we ever have warm fellowship with Him? We can not. But if we bring Him our failures, weaknesses and sins, He is faithful and just and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Yes, He makes us righteous and holy, clean and pure, so that we can have close communion with Him, the Holy God.
Tell Him that you want to be His friend and ask Him for purifying of your heart! Ask for His Holy Spirit, so that He can take shape in you (you can not change yourself that way, no matter how hard you try it). Be a friend and employee of Jesus and not a foolish servant and worker! He longs for you!

Thank you, Jesus, You reject no one who comes to You. Even Judas, the traitor You called "friend"! Yes, I want to be Your friend. How good that You cleanse me so that I can associate with You! How good that You give Your Holy Spirit, who helps me to understand You and to become as You want me to be! I can only be grateful that You are my friend!!
