But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
Psalm 13:5-6
The psalmist begins quite differently: How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
But David who has composed this psalm does not keep complaining. He knows his God! Although the situation is very unclear, actually even hopeless, he knows that God can and will save him! For God has promised always to be with him and not forget him; He will never let him fall. God is stronger than all circumstances!
So we can reassure our hearts in His presence. We look to Him and remind ourselves of all the promises that God has given us. We choose to believe them and to trust in the Lord and not in the enemy, liar and destroyer. Jesus always has a way out for us! And if the cloudy time should take some time, so He is still with us and He will carry us through if we hold fast on Him as our lifebelt! Then after this we will be stronger and able to praise God. And if hard times will need to come again, we know: He is stronger, HE always has a way out!
So we can already sing about God’s victory. Our hearts can be happy, even if it is still night. We can sing, praise and give thanks to the Lord, because the worries, fears and anxieties no longer enslave us! Despite uncertain circumstances we are free, happy and full of peace: for He, our Savior is there!
Thank you, Jesus, that I can rely on you. You never leave me! I am safe in your hands and I can sing and be merry. You are my Savior!
