Jesus said: "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing for me. You will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me with you.“

When Jesus was at Bethany visiting the house of Simon, who had a skin disease, a woman came to him with a vase made of alabaster containing very expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus’ head while he was sitting at dinner. Now when the disciples saw it they were angry and said, “Why this waste? This perfume could have been sold for a lot of money and given to the poor.” But Jesus knew what they were thinking. He said, “Why do you make trouble for the woman? She’s done a good thing for me. You always have the poor with you, but you won’t always have me. By pouring this perfume over my body she’s prepared me to be buried. I tell you the truth that wherever in the whole world this good news is announced, what she’s done will also be told in memory of her.”
That woman has done a beautiful thing to Jesus. We could actually try this too! It is not about love-deeds to our fellow man, but directly about good deeds for Jesus and only for Him. I think of a man who sold his television for Jesus and used the extra time for talking to Jesus and for reading God’s word. Through this times of prayer a great work arose that helps drug addicts (TeenChallenge). But you can also sacrifice something else for Jesus: Your favorite habits or favorite foods. Or simply give Him some of your time. You can happily welcome Him in the morning, tell Him that you love Him and dedicate the day to Him. You can sacrifice lovesongs (the Bible writes about the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving). There are soooo many ways Jesus to do something good!
It is interesting that Jesus assures the woman that her deeds will never forget. No, in heaven nothing good is forgotten! Everything, even the smallest little thing we do for Jesus’ sake, causes great joy and once it will be said in front of everyone, what good we have done for Him. God, the Father, is delighted about it!
Jesus, I want to thank You because You are so wonderful! You’re my best friend who never leaves or forgets me. You are always with me and care about me. To You I dedicate my life. And today I want to sing praises to You and do what pleases You. For I love You!
