Good News – 2015.10.13

The Lord God’s spirit is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me
to bring good news to the poor,
to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim release for captives,
and liberation for prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and a day of vindication for our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
to provide for Zion’s mourners,
to give them a crown in place of ashes,
oil of joy in place of mourning,
a mantle of praise in place of discouragement.
Isaiah 61:1-3

This is about Jesus Christ. It is Him who is anointed with the Spirit of God and who brings salvation. Jesus said it in Luke 4:21 in Nazareth: Today the scripture got fulfilled!
Yes, Jesus is the one who makes it come true: Poor people hear good news; broken hearts are healed; Prisoners become free, even while in prison; Bound and gagged by the devil are set free; a time of grace has dawned; He will reward and dispense justice; those who mourn will find comfort with Him; the dirt of sin is removed and He brings jewelery and the oil of joy in place of mourning, jubilation instead of despair. Yes, it is in Jesus! He really is the Lord, the Savior, Deliverer and Savior! Blessed is who clings to him! He is stronger than anything that will bind and hinder us. He gives new hope even for botched lives!
In the Gospels we read how Jesus makes this "program" real. There is no problem, that would be too big for Him; for everything He has a solution.
On this Jesus we hold on. We seek Him in prayer and in His Word. We need His Spirit who explains everything to us. And we wait for Him full of hope, until He has mercy on us.
If Jesus lives in us, we also should be filled with His Spirit and get anointed. And then He will send us. Without His Spirit we may be social workers or religious reminders. But the power of God that creates new people comes only with the spirit. That is why the disciples should wait until they got the spirit. And then there was no stopping them: They changed the world within a few years. And to this day the messengers of Jesus are going to bring light into the darkness. God says: Go, I send you!

Thank you, Jesus, You are my Savior! You have made me free and satisfied me with Your good spirit! Let my heart beat like Yours, full of compassion, hope and joy! Yes, I will be Your messenger; send me into the darkness of the world!
