He has been good to me – 2016.08.27

I will sing to the Lord,
because He has been good to me.
Psalm 13, 6
King David was once again in a predicament. Actually there was no escape, death threatened him. But he remembers all the good things that the Lord had done for him. In spite of the danger and the great worry he is happy again and can sing: He knows the Lord has the last word.
If you read the beginning of the Psalm, can be a fear:
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me
If David can praise God in such a situation and start singing, then we can do it also. We need only to remember how much good He us has done, how often He has saved us, how much love surrounds us, how He has given mercy over us, as He has given us consolation and courage when we were in great need. And if our world has collapsed, so He will still create a new world and give us a better future. How often it was the darkest night to us, but the sun still went on again. How much has He done in our lives! How He has comforted, taken courage, given strength and hope, spread joy, forgiven sin …
If He has up till now been so worried about us, it will not change today, for He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Since we opt rather for praising Him now and sing to him. We want to see not only the problem, not the dark night, but raise your head and look on Jesus, our Savior. So far, He has saved us, it will also be so today. For His mercy is unchangeable, His faithfulness and His love eternally carries us through.
Thank you, Jesus, in you I have experienced consolation, help and compassion. You are with me in good and difficult days. With you I do not need to fear or die of worry. You are there, my friend, helper and savior! Yes, to you I sing now a song of praise, because you make my heart glad.
