In the Night… – 2016.09.10

There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leading man among the Jews. The came to Jesus by night …
John 3: 1f.

At night, so no one sees it, Nicodemus came to Jesus. No one else was probably present when they talked. Nicodemus himself will have passed on the conversation.
At night the worst things happen. The shadows of loneliness rise up, violence deeds occur, people pondering of the most horrible thoughts. The fingers of darkness stretch out to us. And in sleep some have nightmares. It is good if we know that for God the night is not a problem: "I would say: Let only darkness cover me, instead of light to night surrounded me – even the darkness is not dark for you, the night shines as the day, darkness is like light "(Ps. 139,11f).
But at night also divine things take place: preservation, spiritual struggles, hot prayers, answers from God … The greatest things started small and perhaps at night, for then the man has good ears, to listen to God.
We do not want to fear the night, but just then seek our Lord and guardian! Let us cling to Him who wins the victory over the powers of darkness !!
Nicodemus had come to Jesus secretly. His colleagues would not have liked to see him go to Jesus. The risk was considerable, but he needed to say something! He had well understood what Jesus had said. Just a few pages later, in Jn. 7.50, he defended Jesus in the Council and in Jn. 19, 39 it is reported that he embalmed the body of Jesus after His death. He belonged to the "secret disciples" of Jesus.
There are many people who would like to confess to Jesus, but the family, the profession or another does not allow this. So these people live their faith in secret. Jesus is happy about this child of faith! He knows once it is applicable, they will rise up and stand by him. As long as He prepares them in silence. He knows what it looks like in their hearts if they really love Him, or whether this love is created within them. He will never extinguish a smoldering wick!
There are other "night" -Christenians, whom for the Lord are not so important. They were once fully there and loved Him with all their heart. But now family, job, children, car or hobby has become more important. Throughout the day they are busy. At night comes the Lord and asks: Do you want to? He waiting for a yes, then He can take these lost children in his arms again.
Thank you, Jesus, you have a different way with each of us. It’s just important that we love dearly. Talk to me at night when it is quiet and everyone is asleep. Thank that You have defeated the terror of the night! Yes, in your name, they have to vanish. In the name of Jesus, walk with the ghosts of loneliness, violence, bad dreams!
