Jesus, the Anointed – 2020.12.31
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me;
because the Lord has anointed me.
Isaiah 61, 1
When Jesus preached in Nazareth, this was His sermon text. And He said: Today this word is fulfilled. It is I.
The people looked at Him because God’s Spirit breathed life into these words and affected them. It went through their hearts. But after a few minutes they wanted to throw Jesus down the mountain and get Him out of the way. They did not want such a Saviour.
But for us it is true: He is the one on whom the Spirit of the Lord rests. Jesus received the Spirit at John’s baptism and since then He has done miracle after miracle. Sometimes He did nothing all day but heal the sick, cast out demons and bring the light of the Lord into the darkness. It is interesting how the text continues:
“HE has sent me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives…
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim a year of the Lord’s favour,
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve Zion,
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
Such is the mission of Jesus, that is why He was anointed with the Spirit. There are so many today who need deliverance, who are suffocating in hopelessness and despair, who are perishing in loneliness, who are full of sickness, pain and suffering…. Who does not need this Jesus? HE is the answer to so many questions and problems. Pour out your heart to Him and He will answer. He does it out of love for us.
Thank You Jesus, You are the Redeemer, the Liberator, the Good Shepherd, the Saviour, the King, the Lord…… Oh Jesus, how good that You are here, our salvation, our rock! Under the wings of Your wings I find refuge. Thank You, You are real, You are here, You save me!!! Amen!!!
