Light and Darkness — 2016.09.28

I will live with them and walk among them,
and I will be their God, and they will be my people.
2 Corinthians 6:16

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? ( a usual description for devil at that time). Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore come out from them and be separated, says the Lord. touch no unclean things. Then I will be Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purifiy ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.(2 Corinthians 6:14 -17:1)

With Jesus the Light came into this world. However, the darkness denied the Light. The world refused that someone was disclosing its perishable thoughts and deeds. They wanted to continue to serve their vices and sins. Therefore there is an enmity between the children of the Light and of darkness. The latter perceive everything as a threat which is strange to them. They are not able to understand the children of Light. They are inclined to persecute them. The more we follow Jesus the more the enmity and ignorance of the world increase.
But how we should separate us from the world? We want to look at Jesus to get a reply. For the world and the darkness did not touch him. He lived in the world but no darkness was in Him. Jesus was a happy and cheerful person. He went to weddings, made wine out of water to maintain the cheerful mood of the guests. He liked to eat with customs officials and other sinners, so that people called Him an eater and drunkard. He was together with prostitutes, talked to them, however in respect and love. Always facing the sin which could not contaminate Him He lived freely and happily. He had good contacts with many people but he did not depend on them. About all His needs He spoke with His Father who cared for Him in all matters.
It is not good when the separation from the world is done by rules and laws. The Christian is doing that by grace only. In some denominations you are not allowed to celebrate Christmas, or New Year`s Eve, it is forbidden to drink wine or beer, meat … .There are so many regulations! Each church and group have their own ones. It is really more easy and enjoyable to live as Jesus did it.
We want to be children of God. He is our heavenly Father and we His sons and daughters. How wonderful that is! We therefore want to sanctify us, purify us from everything which could contaminate us. Then God can live in midst of us.
Thank You, Jesus, You have paved the way! Now I am a child of Light. You will help me to live like a child of the heavenly Father.
