Light and Darkness – 2019.12.09
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. … Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
2. Kor 6, 14
Really strong words! When I was in the congregation today, I looked at all the people in turn and noticed: In some, even in some Christians, there is darkness. And others are totally indifferent, they don’t notice anything, they are immune to the work of the Spirit of God – also Christians and non-Christians alike. There are only a few from whom the light shines.
How is that possible? Why is everything so dark? Why does darkness seem to rule even Christians? What is meant here by darkness? Has Jesus not conquered it?
I know that some are dominated by addiction. They are not free, but in darkness. No matter if alcohol, sex or other addictions are present. – Jesus wants to bring light! He frees!
Others have depressions, bad, bad, dark thoughts. Everything is bad, evil, bad. Nothing has any sense and no goal, at the end the cold grave waits anyway. Why make an effort? Why rejoice? Why sing? There is no reason for it. The best thing is to put an end to this misery yourself. – Jesus defeats this darkness and gives a new way of thinking!
Some have bad dreams or premonitions. Jesus also wants to free them from this.
I myself am a moaner and sourpuss. When I get up in the morning, I either start complaining or thanking. It is my decision. If I keep to God’s word, if I turn to Jesus, then praise and thanksgiving determine the day. I have to consciously decide this every morning – it doesn’t happen automatically with me, it is always a small fight.
If I stick to Jesus, it is light. If I abandon myself to the bitchiness and evil thoughts, then the day is dark, the evil one rejoices and reigns. But what do I have to do with him? I belong to Jesus, I belong to the light!
Yes Jesus, I will follow You, for You are light, hope, joy, peace! I want nothing to do with darkness! I hold myself to You, cling to You, for You love me and hold me in Your strong hand. How good You are to me!!
A few more strong verses from our chapter (V16-18):
“For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”
