Little and great Miracles – 2017.01.18

Jesus replied to Nathanael:
You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.
John 1:50
Jesus was with John the Baptist at Bethany. There He met Philip and asked him to follow Him. Philip then met Nathanael and told him: “We have found the One about Mose and the prophets wrote.” Nathanael was quite skeptical. “Come and see!” replied Philip and Nathanael followed him. Jesus saw Nathanael approaching and said: “Here truly is an Israelite in whom is no deceit.”  Nathanael asked:“How do You know me?”  Jesus replied: “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Wow, that was sufficient for Nathanael, how Jesus could know that all, God must have told him that. And he believed in Him. Jesus promised him:” You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things.”
There are often little things that make us believe in Jesus. Once I lost something and searched for that long time. I prayed and asked the Lord to show me the place. Much to my surprise He did that immediately. Overwhelming! One time Jesus healed my little son`s wound of a wasp sting in reply to my prayer. The pain had been severe and I was deeply thankful that God had answered my prayer. Such little things are able to strengthen the faith. The great things we often cannot grasp. True love can be found in the little things as for instance in the daily life of a married couple.
The above event with Nathanael was a great miracle of Jesus. It was God who had shown it to Him. Jesus  had said only that what His Father had told Him. The result was outstanding: Nathanael could believe instantly.
Jesus wishes that we honor His help in small matters as described above and not declare them as coincidences. He wants us to be in His faith school to train us in praying for greater things. Our faith should grow more and more and He will give us challenges for that to demand our decisions: Do I trust Him, or am I doubting like the unbelieving Thomas?
The most significant miracles are not seen! Mere healings do not guarantee redemption. Only if one finds Jesus and the Holy Spirit fills our heart with joy, then we experience the most precious miracle.
Yes come, Jesus, fill my heart with Your love, with Your joy! Fill it with Your Holy Spirit! This is above all signs and wonders which could happen. How wonderful that You love and accept me, that you give me true life and joy in full.
