Lord, rescue me!! – 2015.01.27

But when Peter saw the strong wind, he became frightened. As he began to sink, he shouted, “Lord, rescue me!”
Matthew 14:30
When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water, He bravely said:“Lord, if it’s you, order me to come to you on the water.” And Jesus said, “Come.” Then Peter got out of the boat and was walking on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter saw the strong wind, he became frightened. As he began to sink, he shouted, “Lord, rescue me!” Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him, saying, “You man of weak faith! Why did you begin to have doubts?”
Our faith sometimes is very concrete. Just like here at Peter when he could walk on the water, because Jesus commanded it. And then, as this concrete faith shattered, his only faith was in Jesus personally.Lord, rescue me!
In consultation with Jesus and with solid trust in Him we can believe concrete things and it happens, like we have believed.
But sometimes we do not know how the concrete will of God is in a particular situation. So it’s good that we believe in Him, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Yes, we trust in Him! And He will never disappoint us.
Sometimes we drown in our suffering like Peter did. We are only able to cry: Lord, help! I sink!! – And the Lord will pull us out of our misery. He will never leave us forget us or be too late. He loves His children! He is the father of all consolation!
Sometimes the pain is so great that we no longer know what we should pray. We are silent and keep our eyes questioningly to God the Father. Then the Holy Spirit of God is in us and prays as it is right for us.
In Romans, it is written: In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks, because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will. (Romans 8:26f)
Some times I was so ill that I thought I would die. After a few battles I could feel secure in Jesus: I knew: He is there, His good will be done, even if I’m going to go home now. And in my weakness I could worship and thank Him. Since then the certainty grew in me that He makes me healthy again. I kept His promise firmly in my heart, and the certainty grew. And He kept His promise and I was healthy.
The concrete faith often grows out of being together with the Lord. There He says concrete things that He will do. And if we believe it, it happens as we think.
Thank you, Jesus, You are the God who never lets me down, never leaves me and never gives up. In You I can trust in any situation. You hold Your children firmly in Your strong hand!
