Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him,

Psalm 42, 12

The singer of this psalm is hit rock bottom. He complains to God, all your waves and billows are crashing over me. Why have you forgotten me? The fellow men scoff and call: Where is your God? He has strong doubts as to His Lord because of his difficulties. But then he calls himself to order and thinks of all the good things he has experienced with God.
Waiting for God, that’s something different to waiting for a bus. It is not killing time, no useless waste of time, but be active. It is a conversation with God, not a monologue with Him. It is waiting for a response. Again and again bringing one of his problems or his questions before the Lord and tries to hear his answer. We are to read in the Word of God, to sing worship songs and remember other times where God has answered prayer. You can do other work without demolishing the thread of conversation with God. If one is very serious and the situation very urgent, fasting can help to open our ears.
For me it takes too many days until I get an answer. Stay tuned is the motto! Not giving up discouraged! And then there is suddenly a certainty in the heart. A strong sense of peace and knowledge: The problem is solved, the answer is here! I often do not know exactly how God wants to do everything, but now I know He will do it! Where joy comes high in the heart I can already thank and praise. Now I have this security hold, because the enemy comes in order to rob me and to trouble me again. No, I do not want to admit, even if everything is against me! God’s peace is higher as any reason !!
Some Christians think they have never heard Jesus. But Jesus himself says: My sheep hear my voice, it is perhaps more a question of whether I myself am constantly talking and God does not leave a chance to speak, or if I take any time at all for God.. He wants to talk, are we waiting for him?
Some years ago, we have composed a little song about this verse in our house church:

Thank you, Jesus, for with you my soul comes to rest! You are the rock on which I stand, – you hold fast, even with storm and tempest. Why should I let anything worry me when you’re there? How good to be in your strong hand !!!
