“Nothing can separate me from God!” – 2017.01.08

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Roman 8:38f
God is wonderful! He had confirmed irrevocably that nothing can separate us from Him. Jesus says it in John 10/27: “no one will snatch them out of my hand!” In Hebrew 13/5 you read: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you!” There are many statements in the Bible which promise us that God is near, loves us, and never forgets us.
But why then do we feel so often far from God, sometimes even left alone? Our sin is forgiven! It cannot separate us anymore from Him. As said before He forgives and forgets! No evil forces, no demons, nor human beings can sparate us from Him as He is by far much more powerful. Even the death cannot separate me from Him, as He is the eternal untouchable life!
So, finally, is it me who seperate myself from Him? It seems so. It can well be that I return to a sinful life which comforts me again so that I am not willing to change and to repent. But  it is mostly the unbelief, the lack of faith which separates me from Him. Jesus expresses it in this way: “It is sin that they do not believe in Me.”(John 16:9).
I do not believe Him if I feel guilty and unworthy and mourn about that although He has forgiven all my trepasses. Indeed, if I feel worthless, unholy, dirty then I have no trust in His words. He has forgiven me! He made me holy and pure, you are very, very valuable to Him. Jesus shed His blood for me. Can I then be indifferent to Him? We always and everywhere will realize that it is our unbelief which separates us from God.
But there is hope and solace: Do you know the lost little sheep? Obviously it looked for special events, ran away and got caught in the thorns of a bush. The Sheppard immediately left alone all other sheeps to find it as the lost one was of great value to Him. He heard the desperate bleating of the sheep from a distance, felt the grief in its heart. He freed it from the scrub, took it in His arms, spoke words of comfort, and carried it back home to the other sheeps.
When you are child of God, He always will seek and find you! He never forsakes His children. Even if you do not feel His love, He nevertheless sees you. He keeps His eyes on you with love and always is ready to bring you back to your home. He is your good Sheppard too!
Jesus, in you alone I have trust! I trust Your words and no doubts will sparate me from You. Sometimes I feel lonely but You are there! Sometimes I feel worthless but you make me valuable. Your Yes is a Yes always and for ever!
