We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4: 14-18
There are many ideas about what comes after death. Does the soul wander around, are we born into another body, dead like stone….. How great it is that he Bible tells us exactly, what will happen. When we die, it is as if we have fallen asleep. No-one knows how long the sleep is, it is without time. And then Jesus will come and the trumpet will call. Then He will send His angels and they will call the dead, those who have fallen asleep. At that time it is not relevant whether the body is laying in the earth or was burnt or drowned in the sea or pulverised by a bomb. Jesus will simply make the body new, for Him there are no difficulties; – has He not created the whole world out of nothing?– There is no difference whether you are young or old, fit or sick: everyone receives the body, that Jesus has intended, and then will His bride, His church, be without spot, stain or wrinkle, before Him: Glorious, beautiful people!
There is no comfort when people die without Jesus. But when we hold tightly to Jesus, he will also hold tightly to us. So tightly, that we do not need to fear death. He will prove to be so strong, that the burial of a believer will become a celebration. He has till now held firm to His word and He will also do it in this instance. Hallelujah!
Thank you Jesus, you are my hope! I will not die, but live and be with you! You will heal all my wounds and give me a new life. Therefore, with you in our lives we will sing and dance: Finally totally saved, redeemed and free. And that everything is only through you, Jesus!
