The word of the Lord came to me:
“Today I have made you a fortified city,
an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land…
They will fight against you but will not overcome you,
for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah had difficult assignments ahead of him. And he was still so young. God saw that and assured him His help. Who should be able to do something against the Lord?
Also the young people of today are in great difficulties. More than ever people live rootless, make fun of the faith. The enemy lures with a glittering world, with movies, fantasies, sex, dance and drunkeness, all kind of light pleasures… who can there resist and not fall? Only this one who knows the Lord. From birth, we should teach the children to trust God. We thereby should be a good example, be always in contact with our Lord, make no compromise and live a lifestyle, which the younger generation can follow. (Oh, in this moment I realize I still have a lot missing!)
Indeed our young people need roll models, they need people who live the faith and not just talk about it all the time.
They need free space in Christian communities to exchange their experiences, to learn to stand for each other, to try new things, to sing new songs. They need patience and encouragement, good talks of God
s Word without too much teaching. They really need our support! We should lead them to safe places and not let them run into bad situations.s instructions even if it could offend people.God will take care of them. Be faithful to Him who loves you so much. Stay in steady contact with Him, keep your prayer time to be sufficiently equipped for the new day.
God is blessing us elders with this ability. When Jesus calls you, follow Him. He knows your way in advance and therefore embolden you: Be strong! Be a wall against sin! Have a firm forehead equal to a diamond against the attacks of the enemy. Do not be intimidated, do not give up. He, our Lord, who so wonderfully protected David will also be with you in the same way. Do not be afraid to make mistakes. God will correct and forgive you. Have no fear of man, follow God
Thank You, Jesus, You are with me and I am safe! The whole world may be in tumult, You hold me. What a comfort to rest in Your hands.
Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, „Your sins are forgiven“, or to say, „Rise, take up your bed and walk“?
Mark 2, 9
I can say both equally easily. But nothing follows my words, they have no power. They can’t forgive sins and they can’t make a paralyzed person walk again. My words are just words.
With God it is different. What He says happens. When He said: Let there be light! – Then it happened immediately: brightness was created; light arose where before there was only darkness. It is exactly the same with Jesus: What He says happens. When He forgives sins, they are gone, erased, atoned for and forgotten. When He says to the paralytic: “Get up! – then He can. No problem for the Almighty God! It is the same for Him to forgive sins or heal the sick. For Him is both equally easy and for us equally impossible.
Sin, guilt, impurity, unforgiveness, shame over failure …. these are the things that make life difficult for us. Hidden sin binds us. We have to spend a lot of energy so that no one knows and we don’t have to think about it all the time. But psychiatrists know that guilt is one of people’s basic problems. That’s why they swallow so many sleeping pills and antidepressants or drown everything in alcohol. Only real forgiveness of guilt would be redemption and liberation!
I have experienced Jesus forgiving and eradicating guilt. How happy I was! Three days I hardly needed to sleep! And I have seen in others how happy former ice blocks suddenly became. They were without life, without joy, vegetated, gloomy, full of self-loathing – and then came salvation. Then they literally exploded with joy! It is as if Jesus said: “Now get up, you are healed, and they believe and run. No, actually they are bouncing with joy! So long years paralyzed under guilt and failure, and now finally liberation! Yes, with Jesus it is possible, HE has the power to forgive sin and eradicate it!
O Jesus, how good that you are here! You have forgiven me my guilt and wiped it out. Now I am free! I am without this burden, I can jump and dance, jump and sing! O how good it is with you, my beloved Lord!
I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it was already kindled!
Luke 12, 49
The earth is getting warmer and warmer, the ice is melting, the floods are getting higher and higher, flooding the land.
It should not be like that!! But spiritually it should absolutely be like that!
Our hearts should not remain cold like blocks of ice, they should burn for our beloved Lord. Love is cold in many; – by repentance and turning to the Lord, love could be refreshed and become hot again as it was then, in the days when it was young. Hot love, Jesus likes it! Cold doctrine, cool considerations and cold religiosity, that is hateful to Him.
The hotter the Christians become in worship and love for Jesus, the more the ice will melt.
It is the iciness of these cold hearts. So many people barricade themselves to others so that they can no longer be hurt. Only Jesus’ love and forgiveness can heal them! So many people are coldly mindful of their advantage; only Jesus can seize them and make them alive again. The love of Jesus can melt every block of ice. And our hot prayers are absolutely necessary.
Let us first be seized again by Jesus’ love for us, and then answer Him with hot love and worship, and then take His view of things and His view of our fellow human beings, and then we pray heated and intimate prayers for ourselves and for our fellow human beings, and then Jesus hears and melts the ice, and then the flood rises, and then the land is flooded by the knowledge of the Lord. – Wonderful times will come!
Jesus’ fire burns away all pain. It thaws away the ice of our soul. It awakens us to new life. It burns away guilt and dirt. It enables us to have intimate fellowship with others and redeems us from loneliness. Oh fire of God, come!
Jesus, let my heart burn for You! Forgive me, sometimes I am too lazy and comfortable, sometimes I hide behind old wounds …. Lord, I want to live! I want to burn for You! You are worth it because You loved me first.
It’s not the healthy who need the doctor, it’s the sick.
Matthew 9, 12
Jesus liked to be with ordinary people, with faulty, sinful, loud, coarse people. He loved fellowship with sinners. The devout stood aside and wrinkled their noses. They thought heaven belonged to them, God must be very pleased with His bodyguard and must give them a place of honor. But I fear that in judgment He will say to them, “Go away, I do not know you at all!
They feel righteous, pious and holy. But Jesus sees their hearts full of pride, without mercy, full of jealousy and greed, of self-righteousness and arrogance. They are hateful to Him because they do not walk in God’s ways and prevent others from getting to know Jesus.
The sinners are difficult people. Somehow unpleasant, not likeable, full of mistakes and bad habits. But they know it.
Anyone who wants to come to Jesus must know: I am only a person, a very small one, a sinner, a person full of unsolved problems, a person who cannot cope alone. I need Jesus! I need a saviour!
When your life is full of problems, when your “opponent” wrestles you to the ground, when you can no longer breathe, when you no longer know a way out, when sin has become too repugnant for you, when you can no longer find peace, then you are exactly the right person for Jesus. He seeks such people. For them He was on the cross.
Pour out your heart to Him and ask Him for help. He will also save and redeem you. Only He has the strength and the power to loosen chains and break prisons. He has good plans and thoughts for you. Take Him into your heart, let Him be LORD over you and He will do everything to save you.
Yes, Jesus, You are the Saviour! Already so many people have entrusted themselves to You and You have saved them. Here I am, imperfect and full of sin. LORD, I entrust myself to You, save me!
Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
One of the richest and most leading men at Jesus times asked the Master – actually he asked this question for many, for us today too: How do I receive eternal life? How do I escape hell and get into heaven, be able to stand before the judge, receive peace with God, forgiveness for all my guilt? And how find I meaning and purpose for my life?
Everyone has their own questions but one truth connects them all: A life without true answers is hardly worth living. How do I receive a new life in harmony with God?
This respected man was sure that he had kept all commandments. He considered himself pious, religious, and ecclesiastical. He was probably also a good father and a without blame at his work. But in the end he felt exactly: This was not sufficient for God and also not for himself. Often the richest and most educated people commit suicide because they lack the most important thing that alone can provide comfort.
What must I do to achieve a change? Especially people who can not stand their emptiness and suffer from addiction urgently need an answer to this vital question. What can I do? Jesus says: Just going to church is not enough, I want to dwell in your heart! Then He continues to say: Say goodbye to all what is separating you from Me! Say also goodbye to your own efforts and achievements. Become a child of God and receive all as a gift.
Children are still able to trust, are happy to accept gifts without having compulsory thoughts or any bad conscience. Be like a child and understand what it means when a promissory note is torn, and your sins are forgiven, so that you are free from bad conscience and have peace again, a cheerfulness without effort.
Receive this redemption as a gift from Jesus! Confess your sins and accept His deliverence, purification, and salvation. Then you are living in harmony with God. Please trust Him!
Thank You, Jesus! You gave me redemption, forgiveness and salvation! You have reconciled me to God, have made me His child! Jesus, You are the Holy One, the true Christ, the Messiah, the Redeemer, my Prince of Peace!
Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6, 11
Jesus tells us in the Our Father that we should pray like this: Give us this day our daily bread.
This request requires a lot of trust. We must know the Lord well before we pray something like this with confidence. We must know that He hears us and is concerned for us. He never lets us out of his sight and sees everything that could cause us problems.
One verse in the Bible says: We should bring our petitions before God with thanksgiving. This means that we should be sure that He hears our prayer, and therefore already when we ask, we should say thank you.
Without trust we should not even pray. Prayer would not even penetrate the ceiling above us and would certainly not be brought before God’s throne by faith.
So if we have problems with food, drink, clothing, a roof over our head or work, let us remember how often the Lord has helped us. We want to give thanks for this, so that we can see it before our eyes. We want to remind God of His goodness and decide to trust in Him. He will certainly not let us down. – But let us not set conditions for what we want and what we do not want. “Please no rye bread, I only like toast”, or: “4 hours of work a day at full salary”. God never lets himself be dictated by our stubborn head, nor does He let himself be blackmailed, nor can one negotiate with Him: “If I do this, You give me a nice lunch!” – No, God is not childish, He wants to be gracious.
God wants to reward our faith. That is why He makes us dependent on Him, like Georg Müller with his 10,000 orphans, whom He only fed with donations (at that time social grants did not exist). That’s why he is a hero of faith, read his biography.
If we constantly worry about our daily needs, then it may help to read Psalm 139 and the verses Matthew 6, 19 – 33 again and again and learn them by heart (He will help!).
I wish we could all experience God’s daily miracles of care! They are so amazing and wonderful! Unfortunately, we would not experience these miracles if there were no problems ….
Thank you, Jesus! You are my best friend and You will never forget or abandon me! Even my mistakes and my little faith You forgive. Thank You! Thank You for Your daily care! Even if father and mother forget me, You never forget me. You are wonderful!
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Matthew 6, 10
Yes, these two parts definitely belong together! We only want to ask what reflects the Kingdom of Heaven! No egoistic requests, no special position for our own lives, not the fulfillment of our greed and urges, but God’s Kingdom realized on earth. That is why Jesus keeps talking about us needing to die. Our old self-driven ego, our self-pitying heart must be buried so that the new seed of the Kingdom of God may grow. He wants to make new people out of us when the old has passed away.
What is His Will? Earthquakes, storms, floods, volcanoes, civil wars? Or peace, love, forgiveness, mercy? – No question, is there?
Actually, these are also our wishes. We would like to see the Kingdom of Heaven become a reality here on earth. God’s will is to be done here, just as it is already happening in Heaven.
God rules in Heaven. And there is harmony, peace, love, enthusiasm (no boredom), light! Everything is full of colours and music, everything is penetrated by the power of the Spirit of God, that is why it lives …. Oh, it will be wonderful!
Where Jesus is allowed to reign here on earth, there is glory, there is peace, love, redemption and mercy. The monks and nuns who took Jesus’ words seriously were the ones who built the first hospitals and hospices. It was the Christians who worked out the end of slavery with words, deeds and prayers. They did not rest until God’s will was done. Georg Müller took in the orphans, Mother Theresa the AIDS sufferers and the dying …. Where is our place? What is our driving force? Where may God place us? His will shall be done! This should not remain a pious wish, but must be implemented through words, prayers and deeds. Where to with me?
So many in our midst know prison from the inside. God did not want them to remain lost, but gave them a new chance. It is worth standing up for the Lord and bringing the Gospel with word, deed and prayer to the people! They are waiting for light, hope, salvation!
Jesus, Your will is good! Your will be done in my life, even if it becomes “uncomfortable” for me. Let Your Kingdom come, and I want to help. Lord, equip me and put me in the place where I can serve You!
Truly, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for,
it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them!
There may be many different prayer styles for many reasons. But according to His promise Jesus will always hear those prayers of siblings when they are one in Him. Jesus, however, can not be with them when there is quarrels among them, envy and power struggles, when there is unbelief, or little faith only as it was the case with the disciples in the boat inmidst of a stormy sea.
Once when we 3 siblings prayed intensively together in a small room, I suddenly felt as if everything around me was full of power. I was sure God in His love heard all our prayers. We were one in Him as a wonderful prayer community!
It is good when there is a preacher whose introductory prayers are supported by all. He watches that everyone prays in turn. Also people who are normally silent and reserved should have the opportunity to pray. One person should not take up all concerns at once, should not pray for minutes that nothing remains for the others to bring before God. The leader who opens and ends the prayer meeting should be acknowledged by all participants.
It is also acceptable that everyone in the group prays aloud to God for oneself. It is essential that you take time for prayer and endure silence. Jesus had assured to be inmidst of those siblings who are together in harmony.
Yes, that`s how we want to do it: Before we start to pray we will forgive each other, thank each other, and then will submit our requests. It pleases God when His people come together and thank, adore and praise Him. Then He will dwell in their midst and will rule with His good Spirit. Miracles happen: healing of soal, mind and body. Intercessions will be answered. God fills us up with His Spirit and talks to us.
Thank You, Jesus! You, Almighty, are present! You love Your people and answer their prayers.Oh, that we would benefit more from your grace! Be always in our midst!
….and the truth will set you free.
In a cell sat a man, who was tied at his chair. Of course, this man surely wasn’t free. In a second cell another man sat on his chair. The chains were broken and laid on the floor next to him and the door wasn’t closed. But apparently he had not realized it. He sat there as if he were still tied. Hard question: Was he free or captured? There was also a third cell with a chair, the chains were on the ground and the door was open and the man was gone. Clear! This man really was set free.
The truth will set us free! From all that prevents us from being foot loose and fancy-free and from all that oppresses us. Jesus Himself is the truth, not an elaborated system of doctrines and dogmas. Therefore, and because He loves us, He has redeemed us, ransomed and freed us when we accepted Him as Lord in our life. The chains are broken, the doors to liberty opened! Sometimes it takes some time until we understand it. We have become so accustomed to our chair or couch that we don’t want to get up anymore. And then it becomes a risk to go through that door. Who knows what is waiting there? It’s just possible when we tightly cling to Him and walk together with Him. Step by step we get the new freedom. There is much that can oppress a child of God. But Jesus wants to free us from all, step by step. He wants to bring our life into blossom.
Maybe we are at a wrong place, for which we are not made for. Perhaps it is a job or a participation in our community for what we don’t have the right skills. We see it as a tedious duty, but don’t feel any satisfaction or joy. But we can trust that He leads us to the right way. Maybe we need some patience, but He will manage it! For He is the truth that sets us free!
Thank you, Jesus, You are my redeemer! You take my hand and we can run together! You bring my life to blossom, because you have a wonderful way for me! Yes, I trust you!
He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. …
My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me. …They shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
John 10, 3. 27f.
Many Christians cannot say exactly whether they can hear the voice of Jesus at all. This may be partly because they constantly listen to other things, but also because they may have preconceived ideas.
It is very rare that someone hears the voice of Jesus acoustically, as one hear another person. He speaks differently, quietly and in many ways.
Jesus clearly states here: they hear my voice. There is no if, maybe, possibly.
We hear Him talking in the Bible. Sometimes a verse speaks directly to us and gives us courage. We take this personally as God’s promise for us in our situation. And God sticks to it and does not disappoint us. If you search Bible passages according to your own ideas and want to persuade God to act the way you want Him to, things usually go wrong.
In silence a soft voice appears, somehow we get a experience certainty that God wants to do this or that. This certainty must be held fast, otherwise it will be quickly discussed away by our conflicting thoughts. The best thing is to write it down, with date and place!
Sometimes God’s voice reaches us through another person. His word suddenly becomes certainty, conviction is there, God speaks through this person.
Rarely have I heard God’s voice. Once I was driving through a forest, when a voice in my head said: Be careful, there could be a deer on the road! – I was so shocked that I forgot to step on the gas, and when I came around the bend, I was able to slow down in time before the stag. – Well, this is just a small thing, but it was His voice.
I don’t know why God sometimes talks like this, other times like that; – He will have His reasons. For me it is only important to have time and peace to listen to Him, to open myself to Him and to keep what is said in my heart. I don’t want to lose it.
Sometimes God speaks through dreams, visions and prophets. We should not set God any limits on how He is to speak! But we should always check these special avenues of God’s speech to see if it really is so, and not be too gullible.
Thank You, Jesus! You still talk to me today. You are not far away and silent! Thank You, You know my circumstances and You know a way out. I trust You!
