Servant King – 2015.04.16

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
John 12, 26

Many want to serve Jesus, but they serve him in the way that they choose. But we should follow Him, only in order that we can serve Him.
He lived with his parents, worked in their business with them and was obedient to them. He did not permanently rebel against His parents. He worked. He took responsibility for His own livelihood. He was helpful and friendly with everyone.
When He was 30 years old He went into the desert, in order to find out what God wanted for Him. He learnt to hear the voice of God and to follow it. He had no wishes of luxury or other things for himself, but trusted His heavenly father to provide for all his needs. Where Jesus was, God was also there. Yes, they were not separable. God cared for Jesus. Jesus did not want His own glary through the miracles and deeds that we did, but He wanted to glorify His father. And the father glorifies Jesus, in that He exalted Jesus in front of the people.
For the most part it is not the great deeds we do that make us servants of Jesus. When we – in the place that we stand – do our work, are satisfied and thankful, and if we are helpful, merciful and friendly, then that is truly following Jesus. He will be where we are. And the father in heaven looks at us with goodwill and blesses us at all opportunities.
If we take on a particular task than we want to first speak with Jesus, going into solitude as in the desert. Then He will tell us what is important. There can He call and equip us. Then will this task be wonderful for the kingdom of God and He will help us in His strength to carry it out.
Thank you Jesus that you have called me out to be your servant. Yes, that pleases me, because you are a wonderful Lord. I want, here in my place, to be a satisfactory servant. And if there is something specific you want me to do, that you will say so. Thank you that with you comes a good life! You presence, joy and peace enfolds me.
