Shipwreck – 2015.10.22

Call upon me in the day of trouble;
then I deliver thee,
and you will honor me.
Psalm 50, 15

When Paul was traveling by boat to Rome, a powerful storm blew up. For a fortnight he raged and the sailors had no hope. But God had told him: "Fear not, Paul! Because you have to appear before the emperor. And God has given you all them that sail with you." With these words, Paul gave the people courage and told them to eat and to strengthen themsleves. He knew that the ship would go down, but the people would be saved. In the morning they saw land and arrived with some effort on the shore; – No one drowned.
If the ship of our life goes down with all our hope, when all the things that are important to us and for which we have strained us – are thrown into the water, if we choose between Sinking or Calling on God, : God hears and rescues. He is a foundation that coutinues. He is the anchor that holds. It is the Noah’s Ark that saves!
When my ship sank and no hope was there, I cried unto the Lord. I had not very much faith, and certainly no hope. Praise and thanksgiving were certainly not on my lips. Yet God pulled me aside and saved me. He took me on dry land. It took a long time until I had recovered. But now I see this new, wonderful country: His kingdom. How beautiful life has become again! Together with him, yes, that’s wonderful!
A relative had received early cancer and was lying on his deathbed; – No more hope. I visited him and asked if we wanted to pray. He thought for some time, and then he called very excited: I have had no use for God all my life, and now I will not whine on my knees for mercy! – Oh, how bad! Since he has the abyss in front of him and cannot overcome his pride, – fatal, this pride.
No, we want to remain faithful to Jesus. He is the only one who can really save. He is the Almighty God who has mercy on His children.
Thank you, Jesus, I can rely on you! You are the one who carries me. You carry me through life and even in death. Until I am with you, you carry me! You are the God who has mercy on me.
