Small and weak – 2015.06.11

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12: 9
Unfortunately we are not as strong as we would like to be. There are limits to our physical strength, our faith and our mercy. Our doubts and concerns hinder our life of faith and our comfort shortens our prayer-life. No, sometimes I think we are more ballast for God than help. But here comes His voice: you are not supposed to be a help, but you’re the one I love.
If God loves me, then it’s kind of like the little rabbits of my children: they do nothing, but the boy loves them. He takes them out of the cage and strokes them. And provides them with all sorts of food, -only the best of course. They are the object of his love and care. If they were huge as an elephant or strong as a tiger, it would certainly not be so.
God loves the small, the weak. He can enfold and care for them. His whole care can be put there. If we were strong and independent, how should God prove His love? We do not need him, we can do everything alone.
I do not need to be flawless, perfect and strong. I am who I am. I do not need a wig, makeup and jewelry. I do not have the muscle man gait of the guys from the body-building center. I can apologise if I do something wrong. What could I hold on to? Which facade could be useful to me? I can be me. Because God loves me and I am safe in Him.
What I cannot do, my God can do. I can trust him, that he is doing what is impossible for me. I should not be lazy. Or is a little lazy better than being proud to cope alone? Well, he will guide and steer me properly. The older I get, the less I can and the more God does for me. He shows His power in my weakness.
And one more thing that pleases God: He does not like when we can do everything alone and do so. He likes it when the brothers work together and help each other. Here comes the case of our pride. In a team everything goes much better!
Thank you, Jesus, that you are there! With you I am safe in spite of my imperfections. You love me despite my mistake. You show your strength when I am weak. How good, that with you I can be who I am without this facade of perfection. You make me strong to overcome my pride and to live without facade and mask. Yes, with you I am safe and secure.
