The lies of the enemy  –  2019.11.22

If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.
Jesus, in Luke 16, 31

This is what Jesus says at the end of the parable of the rich man and the poor Lazarus. The rich man goes into the abyss. From afar he sees poor Lazarus lying in the lap of Abraham and realizes how evil his life was. He asks Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers to warn them; he thinks that when someone comes back from the dead, they will believe him and repent. But Jesus knows us and He knows it is pointless.
Today, should anyone really rise from the dead, we would say, “He wasn’t really dead. It only seemed that way. Or: It was a trick, there was an actor in the coffin – we would not believe the obvious, because we do not want it to be true. It is pointless to have a discussion with these people; – but perhaps our testimony about our life with Jesus will not be in vain.
People believe in fairy tales and pseudoscientific assertions. Not only in relation to sexuality, but also in relation to God, Creation, the laws of nature, our faith and us as believers. We are against it with all strength, against all understanding, but with all one’s heart. These people are controlled by others, blinded by the prince of the world and his lies.
But unfortunately we Christians are also like this: we believe what we have learned. I call that tradition and religion. We read the Bible through these glasses. There are some things in the Bible that we don’t read, see or understand at all. And so a great heavenly treasure escapes us. – And the enemy, the father of lies, rejoices.
If you really want to understand the gospel, forget everything you have learned, forget all interpretations and commentaries. Become like a little child reading about Jesus for the first time. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes. And you will notice how the letters come alive. Your life comes to a greater perfection. The heavenly treasures will soon be yours.

Thank You Jesus for Your Holy Spirit! Send us Your Spirit so that we may understand Your Word anew – in all its fullness! Make us children, simple and naïve, and fill us with Your wisdom so that we may know the Gospel!
