The New Covenant – 2015.08.31

This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Every time you drink it, do this to remember me.
1 Corinthians 11:25
Jesus Christ has made a new covenant with us and sealed it with His blood. It is eternal and can no longer be broken by God’s side. Jesus gave His life for this covenant.
The old covenant is the law: This is how you shall live! You shall be holy as God is holy! – But the people could not keep the covenant, repeatedly they sinned, profaned the covenant, rebelled against God; they just could not be as perfect as God demanded. The old covenant was a burden, a mirror for the sinfulness, an unattainable ideal! But God had already announced in the Old Testament that there will be a living covenant. This should not be written on paper or stone, but enrolled in the vibrant heart. He himself wanted to make it!
With Jesus Christ it became a reality: He took away all sin, all that stands between man and God. Now the access to the Creator is free and we can stand before Him. Jesus took the death’s power. He built a road through death into heaven. Those who cling to Him will not die and perish, but be eternal with Him. He defeated the evil. The enemy now has no more power over the children of God, but in the name of Jesus, we can defeat the enemy, harass and repress him. The kingdom of God on earth has begun!
The covenant that Jesus made with us may not be changed or broken by God; – Too precious was the sacrifice that Jesus made: He gave himself up as a sacrifice of reconciliation. His body was broken and His blood was shed. Jesus says ‘yes’ to You, then God also says ‘yes’ to you. If You cling to Jesus and believe Him, then God bends down to you and takes you as His beloved child, just as Jesus is His beloved child.
That we never forget God’s covenant with us, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. It should constantly remind us of His sacrifice and the new covenant. He knows how forgetful we are. This celebration is holy to Him; Only those who are really serious about Jesus, may come and lie through His Body and Blood.

Thank you, Jesus! You are the Redeemer and Saviour, You are Jesus, Messiah, Redeemer and Savior! I cling to You, on You I build myself, and in You I believe! You have redeemed me and died for me. On the cross You have suffered the punishment for me; – I am free! Set Your covenant deep in my heart, so that I never forget You! How good that You love me!
