The Ten Sick Men – 2017.03.27

When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself to the ground at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.
Luke 17:15-16
When Jesus made his way to Jerusalem, He was going into a village when he was met by ten men suffering from a dreaded skin disease. They stood at a distance and shouted, “Jesus! Master! Have pity on us!” Jesus saw them and said to them, “Go and let the priests examine you.” Only priests could confirm a healing. On the way they were made clean. When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself to the ground at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan – the Jews hated the Samaritans. Jesus spoke up, “There were ten who were healed; where are the other nine? Why is this foreigner the only one who came back to give thanks to God?” And Jesus said to him, “Get up and go; your faith has made you well.”
It was then like it is today: Many people receive blessing, healing, and deliverance because of God, they are glad about it, but it doesn’t have any consequence for them. They take the blessings, say thank you, and leave. Somehow God expects more.
People with skin disease (probably lepers) are people not many people like to deal with. They are isolated from society. But Jesus welcomes them. Those people are dear to Him. He died for them and a lot of them will be with us in heaven. Will we always like that?
One comes back, threw himself to the ground, and thanked Jesus. Like that we should thank Jesus as well: with all what we are and have. He healed us, saved us, freed us from darkness, loves us, forgives us, and gives new hope to us. We don’t just want His blessing, but want to give ourselves to Him. This Lord is worthy of our service! He is an awesome Lord. Why are we afraid to serve Him fully?
Thank You Jesus! You are awesome! You listen to our cries, our prayers, loves us without limit, forgives our mistakes, and defeats death… Who am I that I could serve You? Why am I afraid of fully following You? You already saved me, am I afraid You wouldn’t do it again? No, Lord, my life belongs to You, and my strength, and my longing. All my love belongs to You, from all my heart. You are my savior, my awesome Lord.
