Two Sisters – 2019.05.21

Cleanse me with hyssop,
and I shall be clean;
wash me,
and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness!
Psalm 51, 7f.

(Hyssop is a rare medicinal plant).
I know two sisters, one I call Martha, the other Mary. They are very different, but they have one thing in common: they both love long, white robes.
But white clothes have a drawback. If you eat ketchup or drink coffee, you may spill, and you have a “beautiful” stain on your white dress, ugh!
Martha then has the biggest problems, she complains and cries: “My beautiful dress, completely ruined! – and she almost falls into depression. It takes her a long time to calm down and wash the dress.
Maria is different. A little stain? So what? – And out comes the soap and some water, and the dress is white again. No problem for her.
We Christians have a similar situation. There are some who are very serious and never sin. But should they commit a single small wrongdoing, they fall into depression for days. How could something like this happen to them when they have been faithful for so long!
And then there are others to whom something “happens” all the time. But they are and remain cheerful. Because with every little thing, and even more with bigger things, they rush immediately to their Lord, so that He purifies them again. They have no difficulty in asking for forgiveness ten times a day – and Jesus grants forgiveness and equips them again with a joyful spirit.

Yes, Lord, equip me with Your Spirit of merriment, with ease in faith, with steadfastness! Thank You for forgiving me a hundred times a day! Thank You for loving me boundlessly! Thank You that I am pure and holy through Your grace! Lord, I love You!
