What Are You doing Here? – 2016.08.01

And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:9+13
The queen Jezebel threatened Elijah’s life so he fled into the desert in fear. Broken and depressed he sat under a broom bush, and God asked him: what are you doing here?Elijah spilled his heard out to God. Elijah fought for God with all his heart but in the end he stood alone! God didn’t tell him the reason for this – He seldom does – but He showed him His strength and power. God asked Elijah why he was afraid. He told him that he wasn’t alone since there were still 7000 faithful to God. Finally He gave Elijah new tasks, so he wouldn’t stay down but move on!Sometimes great men of God are depressed and fearful. Like all humans!
Sometimes when we are depressed the simple question ‘what are you doing here?’ can help us. What do I want to do with my life? In this month or year? What do I want in this place? Those times of depression are used by God to get our goals back on track. We need to think things through once again and decide where to go next. Are we at the right place? That place that God wants us to be? When we decide that we are not we should not leave hastily and take our problems with us. God isn’t hasty. Remember Isaac. When Isaac had trouble with his neighbors about his well he just moved a bit until they stopped complaining. Or remember Paul who let the Holy Spirit show him where he should go.If we are in a situation that isn’t right for us it’s our responsibility to change something. It doesn’t help to flee into the desert to lie beneath a broom bush and be disappointed in life. Better get up! When we do something God can steer us. Sometimes it’s on us to chance a situation. But we can hardly chance other people. So sometimes we have to move a bit to keep the peace – even when we have to leave something behind (God will repay us our losses). One more question: is the place I’m at in tune with the task I got from God? Or am I on vacation? Abraham father was suppose to go to Canaan but he found a home somewhere on the way – task failed. Abraham finished the journey. Let’s get up and finish our journey! Let’s discard our laziness, our luxury, our tiredness, and our sluggishness and fight to reach our goal!
God gave Elijah water and bread. We will be nurtured and strengthened by Him as well. The mighty God holds His Hand to protect us.
Thank You Jesus, for You let us sleep safe! We want to continue on our way and walk beside You. Our life should follow the Goal.Bible reading today: 1 John 4:7-21
