Devotion – May, 27.
I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little. I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.
Philippians 4, 12f
Some preachers preach the "prosperity gospel." They believe, if you have faith then God will give you everything – money, health and wealth in abundance. The promise for this is written in the Bible. But Paul had a different gospel. He preached that man shall look on God, shall be dependent on Him and to look less at their own circumstances. Jesus is the savior and not your own strength of faith.
Jesus uses circumstances to draw us closer to His heart . He holds all things, even our circumstances in His strong hand. It is important to Him that I seek Him and orientate me according to Him. That is why He sometimes takes us everything that is still important to us. My heart shall not depend on any luxury, but on Him, the source of life! If I know Him, I am sure: He cares for me. Whether I have a lot or a little, whether I am healthy or sick. He is still with me, got me in His loving hand and determines my circumstances. Yes, out of His hand I can take every day and every situation. I don’t need to worry unnecessarily, I should not feel disturbed, the fear of tomorrow can not rule me. He is still there! Out of this confidence we can react and live composedly. He is there, He loves His children, He always has the final say!
Thank you, Jesus, You cover me in peace. You are my source of life. You give me so much! And if I once have less of something, You are there and compensate the lack. You always have a plenty, even if I have little. Thank You for never forgetting Your children! With You I can go through live confidently and calmly; for You are my Good Shepherd!!
