Let God be God! — 2015.12.13
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from Him.
Psalm 62:5
How easily we are disturbed by small things. How much we worry about what might happen tomorrow. How much we are concerned about matters which we cannot change anyhow. How much our joy is robbed by our brooding over evil. How strongly our past is oppressing us. It is not astonishing that many Christians suffer from insomnia.
And what God’s word tells us? Be still and see that I am Lord.
When Peter – he was a good swimmer – walked on the water, he was in courageous mood. But when He turned his eyes away from Jesus and looked at the waves he lost his boldness and sank. He tried to swim, struggled with his arms, however, the waves were too strong. Finally he cried: Lord, help! And Jesus immediately grabbed him, pulled him out of the water and brought him back into the boat.
Just like Peter we often try to manage our life by ourselves. Initially we go with Jesus boldly and cheerfully. Suddenly doubts are attacking us and we begin to sink. Our courage and joy decrease, we struggle with our arms and fight against the waves of life with all our strength and yet we sink. Now, finally, we call for Jesus who pulls us out. And again the same story begins: We start boldly – in our own strength – full of hope and joy until we discover the impossibilities. Doubts are coming again and we sink. Exhausted we cry for help and the Lord pull us out.
Brothers and sisters, so it should not be any longer! We immediately will throw our sorrows and worries on to the Lord, will trust Him in big and small things. Be still and see that I am Lord! – God says.
My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God,
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust Him all the times, O people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge.
