Richness – 2016.04.27

And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink;
do not worry about it.
For the pagan world runs after all such things,
and your Father knows that you need them.
But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
Luke 12:29ff.
Jesus warns us about the false security of wealth: Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. And He told them following story: The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, what shall I do? I have no place to store my crops. Then he finally said: This is what I shall do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to myself. You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy, eat drink and be merry! But God said to him: You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.
Jesus wants to offer us a meaningful life free of sorrows and fears. If we focus our eyes too much on our own well-being and love prosperity too much we easily lose Jesus out of sight. And then the worries come up. Jesus wants us to be in close dependence from our heavenly Father who cares for us. We are generous as He is generous towards us. We need not to stick to money as He always provides us with new one. He is our security. He is our "bank". He offers us a life in piece, joy and justice. Not the hunt for prosperity should drive us. We should deal with the money as He likes it: Freely for His kingdom and not for us, stingy and always thinking about ourselves. Not one cent we can take with us into eternity. All you have to leave for other.
We rather will live for Jesus not for ourselves. He gives us true life, eliminates fears and sorrows, offers deep piece, joy, fulfillment, and felicity. Why should we accept that the hunting for prosperity robs our salvation?
Thank You, Jesus, that You cares for me! Now I am free of sorrows and fears and am able to work for You. Yes, I will do good things with my money, invest in Your kingdom, will be generous. I will not safe it pointless, will put it into Your bank. You never will leave me alone when I need You.
