Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?
Judges 6,14

God gives Gideon a task that is in reality much too difficult for him. Gideon saw the suffering in his country and suffered greatly because of it. But what was he supposed to do about it? And then God called him. He wants little Gideon to free his country. Gideon takes a good look at himself and realises he is not the right person for the job. He’s got no power, no special job… nothing that could possibly qualify him for the job.
But God is not stupid! He has given the matter a lot of thought. He wanted a small, normal, down to earth person for the job. It is him He wanted to equip, and him He wanted to help. If the powerful God is with Gideon, who can oppose him?
Even today God looks around our country for people who trust in Him. When they see the suffering around them, it may be that it is Him calling them to heal the suffering. They need to do this in the strength they possess, and in the belief that God will be there to help them.
If we do not have a direct task from Jesus, our strength will soon fade. That is why God’s calling is so important! If we try to determine our own path and destination, and only want God’s blessing, He will stay away; we are on our own. But if He speaks to our hearts, we can rest assured, He has sent us into this suffering, and He will do everything possible to ensure our success. Your will be done, not only in heaven but also right here on earth!
The tasks given to us by God are much too big for us. If we accept His calling, we need to trust Him completely;- a little bit is not enough. There will be great difficulties, but He is so much greater! Only through this faith in Jesus can we accept this calling, and win the battle! Have faith! He is there!
A couple of verses prior to this one, we read: may all who love the Lord be like the sun when it rises in its strength!- what a great promise for courageous Christians! This morning I woke up to thick mist. But the sun came up and dispelled the mist.
Thank You, Jesus, You are my power and my strength! With my power and determination, with Your strength, might and presence, we will win the battle! It is You who sends me out into the darkness of this world;- but You are my light! It is Your battle, but I am willing, because You are the Lord who loves me.
