The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out, but the priest shall burn wood on it every morning.
Leviticus 6: 5

This is about the laws, which God gave to Moses about the tabernacle. He wanted to live with the people, near to them and reachable. There had to be purity and holiness, because how else could the holy God live with the unclean, unholy people? Today the sanctuary, the temple of God, is the hearts of the believers, those who were washed clean through the sacrifice of the lamb.
The cleansing and sanctifying fire should burn, it should never be quenched! Our hearts should burn for Him, our good Shepherd. Therefore every morning we should relay our wood, otherwise it will be quenched. Every morning we want to turn to the Lord and renew our love and devotion to Him. We want to be filled with His mercy, wisdom, peace and joy, – with His Holy Spirit. All impurities should be burnt, every morning newly. That is important to God how we start our day.
I am reminded of a song that expresses this so well:
Lord, light the fire in my heart
Let it shine bright to you my saviour
What I am and have is yours.
Hold me tightly in your hands
The source of life, the source of joy,
You make the darkness of my soul light
You hear my prayers and help me out of harm
Jesus my Saviour my Lord and my God.
