My fortress – 2015.03.29

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I trust
Psalm 91:1-2
Many people do not have a firm grip in their life. When something bad happens they are in danger to lose the ground under their feet. Especially after a divorce men are taken away the joy of life. They don`t know what for they should live anylonger. They feel exploited and worthless. It could be that they start to drink alcohol and even are willing to commit suicide. Their problems, however, have their beginnings much much earlier. As a child they did not receive the love and esteem which they need. They could not build up a solid self-confidence and were therefore dependant on the acceptance of others. So when they were critisized by other people and even left alone the world seems to end for them.
God likes to be the Father especially for these insecure people to protect and value them. He alone can heal wounds which incurred in their childhood. He likes to be the fortress in which we can retreat when people leave us alone, disappointed us and used us to their advantage. He wants to keep us away from drinking alcohol or to make suicide. We are too much His esteemed children.
A God, with whom we get in contact on Sunday only, cannot help us really. He is too far away. We need a God who lives in our heart whose name is Jesus. He makes the darkness bright. He gives our life meaning and purpose. He gives us hope where despair was before.
Some people feel God is a merciless judge as they experienced it from others. In this case please ask God to forgive your wrong thinking and ask Him to show you how He really is. People who consider God as a dooming judge only, they never will get to learn the love of Him and be touched by it. No doubt, He is our only hope!

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completedly, O Lord.
You hem me in-behind and before me;
you have laid your hand upon me.
Psalm 139: 1-5
