The Prayer of Abraham – 2015.04.12
Perhaps there are fifty righteous people in the city: Will you really sweep them away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?
Genesis 18:24
God is a holy, a righteous God. He does not like to have sin, injustice, unholiness, and impurity in his vicinity. Where He is there is no darkness, no compromise. He is God!
On the other hand our world is full of injustice, the communities and churches full of unholiness. Where is God? He stays far away from them so that they will not pass away.
And why God does not destroy the earth, or leave it as it is? It is for the sake of His children. He cannot destroy the earth because He would then sweep away the righteous together with the wickets. To protect His children as a loving Father He must intervene and will not let everything on earth take its course.
He visited Abraham and told him that He will destroy the towns Sodom and Gomorrha as there was too much sin. Abraham was full of compassion for the inhabitants of these cities and asked Him whether He really wanted to sweep away the righteuos with the wickets. No, God replied, I will not do that if I will find fifty righteous. Abraham continued to negotiate with God boldly until God agreed not to punish the city of Sodom if there are only ten righteous. However no ten righteous could be found and the judgement took place. But before that, angels brought the family of Lot, the nephew of Abraham, out of the city.
This biblical story clearly proves how much God is blessing us according to our behaviour, how much God is willing to forgive, how much He loves mankind. He is listening to His children when they come to Him and pray for other people. He encourage us to pray boldly for our world. He wants us to pray for forgiveness of the extensive sins in our country and in the churches.
There are Christian communities where there is no life. They seem to be nothing than a burocratic institution. However, if there are 5 or ten children of God who loves the Lord, God will bless the community and fill same with life. Therefore we should use our position before God enabling Him to pour out His blessings in which way ever.
He likes it, when we are not always thinking of us but stand up instead for someone else: for the family, for our relatives, friends, collegues, our church, our city, our land. He is pleased if we ask for forgiveness for the faults of others. He loves pouring out blessings over us and others.
Thank you, Jesus, You like to forgive and not judge! I rely on Your love. Therefore I ask you to bless and protect our families, to forgive the sins of our village and to visit our country with Your light of hope. Please awake our churches so that they will listen to you and will praise You, will explode with joy and set fire in the hearts of others. You are the Almighty who can do everything, nothing is impossible for You.
