Dwelling in safety – 17.10.2014

You have filled my heart with greater joy
than when their grain and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4:7-8
Sleeplessness is often a big problem. The next day one must indeed be fit again! Sometimes it is due to physical ailment or disease. And if you like drinking black tea or coffee in the evening, you should not wonder why you cannot fall asleep. Or when the thyroid vibrates the nerves or suggest an allergy to the brain, it can be really difficult to fall asleep.
Often sleeplessness is caused by our worries. And God can create wonderful remedy if we are willing to do our part. HE is the reason not to worry. He has everything in His strong hand, everything what we ask Him for. David knew the problem, but he knew God from his youth. He knew he can trust Him no matter what. Therefore he had such a wonderful peace and serenity in his life. Faith makes it possible!
Some find it helpful to write down the verse from Psalm 4 and read it aloud in the evening: I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8) Reading aloud helps us to develop the right belief in Jesus. Then we can give our worries and fears to Him.
He fills our hearts with a great joy. When I look at all of His miracles and creation, when I think about the Almighty God and see Jesus in His glory, my heart is light and happy. He is the victor over hell, death and the devil! He is merciful, patient, gentle and strong. How good it is that this Jesus is with me! He looks after me and cares for all the thousand little things that make me stressful. How good it is – Jesus is here!
Thank you, Jesus, you’re there! I don’t need to fear or worry, because You care for me. If I give my worries to you, you fill my heart with joy. Then I am in pease and I can sing and dwell in safety. How good it is that you are so close to me!
