God’s love – 2017.02.17

Because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Romans 5,5
This is the answer to Jesus’ question:  do you love me?  God Himself pours His love into our hearts.  On our own we are only capable of very limited love toward God.  There is always something trying to keep us away, always some silent reproach so that we develop a guilty conscience toward God, wasting our love.
He, God’s Holy Spirit, wants to live in our hearts.  When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and received forgiveness for our sins, when He took away the bondage of darkness and flooded us with His light, He gave us His Holy Spirit.  Every Christian has the Holy Spirit in his heart!!!
When the Holy Spirit is given free rein in our hearts, He can govern and steer it.  He wants to fill us with peace and joy, He wants to give our hearts faith, love and hope.  He allows the fruits of the Spirit to grow:  peace, joy, patience, love, gentleness, discipline … He wants to free the gifts, speaking in tongues, prophecy, healing of the sick, dynamic action, teaching, wisdom, insight, differentiation of spirits and others.
It is a matter of listening and giving Him free rein.  It is possible for us to block Him, should we so wish, or should we decide not to acknowledge His wishes.
That is why Jesus needs first place in our lives.  We need to be prepared to do as He wishes.  We need to take time to study His will, through prayer and bible study.  Only then can our love for Him grow, because the Holy Spirit enables it.  It is not possible to produce love on our own, it becomes a pain.  But we can allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with His love and then we will be able to praise God, to worship and love Him deeply.
Then the Holy Spirit wants to take it a step further: He awakens within us a love for our fellow man, true compassion and the desire to help and save others.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to govern is an adventure.  It is thrilling, never boring and brings fulfilment to our lives.  Let us not be happy with anything less!!!
Thank You Jesus, for Your Holy Spirit!  Thank You for letting Him live in me, giving me new life, new hope, new energy and strength!  Thank You for filling me with gratitude and love!  Lord, I cling to You, because You are the living source.
Bible study for today:  Genesis 25
