Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5, 1
How do we make peace with the thoughts that indict us? How do we preserve our peace when others accuse us? How can we speak with God, and have peace with Him, the Holiest? For a long, long time I tried really hard to be good. But it was never enough. Something was always missing, no matter how insignificant it seemed. I could never find peace. My thought would always accuse me, or someone would criticize me. It was the wrong way, and it cost me so much energy!Only faith makes it possible. That is why Jesus says: if you don’t become like the small children. We will only ever achieve peace with God if we learn to trust like small children. Trust that the debt is gone, that the slate has been wiped clean. My little ones have a guilty conscience when they have done something wrong. But once we have talked it over, resolved the guilt and started fresh, then they can trust me that the matter has truly been resolved, and that I love them again. Then they can be happy and free again. I will only be free of my guilty conscience once I believe that the Lord Jesus has truly absolved me of all guilt. I will only be able to tolerate the accusations of others when I learn to trust in Him. I can only stand before God when I know I am pure and blameless. Then I can have communion with Him. Then HE is my heavenly Father who loves me and cares for me. Yes, only faith makes it possible! How can I receive all the promises in God’s Word? Through faith, the way my children have faith in me. If I promise them something, I have to keep that promise. Then their faith in me will grow. If God promises me something, He must keep that promise. And I must trust him to keep His promise. He will not listen if I trust only in myself and my own good deeds. He won’t get involved if I believe only in my own powers of persuasion. Only if I trust Him with my whole heart and believe in His Word, only then will His Word become Truth. Yes, only faith does it.Thank you Lord Jesus, for you are wonderful. You are Lord and Ruler over all. I can trust you in every situation. I am like a small child seeking solace and love in its father’s lap.Bible Reading Today: 2 Corinthians 6, 11 – 18
